Tracey - Junior Club Captain

Hello!

I first joined East Coast Bays in the 1980s, playing softball alongside badminton and indoor netball. A few years ago, I was encouraged to try slow pitch, and since then, I’ve also enjoyed playing in Women’s Division 3.

Over the years, I've been fortunate to coach alongside my brother, Troy Smail, with the U13 and U15 girls’ teams, and I’ve also had the pleasure of creating ECB's first Under 11 girls team (for many years) two seasons ago.

Last season, I completed my Orange Shirt Umpire qualification, and I can highly recommend this course to anyone interested. It gave me a whole new perspective on the game!

I hold a Diploma in Sport & Recreation and have previously worked with Sport North Harbour, facilitating the Kiwisport program for kids. My true passion is coaching softball, and my greatest satisfaction comes from watching players grow—not just in their skills, but in the friendships they form along the way.

As Junior Club Captain, I’m especially excited to work closely with our junior players this season to ensure a strong and successful year. I’m committed to providing the support and encouragement our juniors need to thrive, and I’m looking forward to watching them develop, both as athletes and as part of our club community.

Here’s to an exciting season ahead—let’s make it one to remember!
