North Harbour Coaching Academy 2009

Clinic’s are to be run for U11 – U15 age grade players Girls and boys.

 All trainings, location: North Harbour Softball Association, Diamonds 1 & 2.

Dependent on numbers trainees may split into two groups

It is envisaged Pitchers and catchers will be utilized Live each training season from Week #3 – Week #5

Players required bringing at a minimum:
Glove
Water bottle
Appropriate training gear, closed in shoes a must
If catcher - Catchers gear
Warm gear

 

Softball Coaching Basics 2008 -2009

ECB Softball information on Coaching Basics by Guy Kawe.  A very useful introduction and refresher for those coaching. A must read for the 2008/09 season.

Draw – the draw is up on the North Harbour website www.northharboursoftball.co.nz.  This will be put up weekly for the first few weeks, as some late team entries or withdrawals are made.  Because of this the draw may change during the week, so please check again on Friday to ensure that you have the correct diamond etc. particularly if you are down for a bye. 

Umpiring – if your team is first on the draw you are to supply an umpire for the game.  Please ensure you check the new rules for this season on www.northharboursoftball.co.nz (home page) and I would recommend you have a copy on game day should there be a dispute over rules.

Scoring – team cards are to be picked up from the control office at Rosedale Park before the start of the game.  Again check the last page of the NHSA Competition Rules & By-Laws 2008-2009 to ensure you complete team cards correctly.  In particular list full team name, first name and surname of each player playing (including subs) and shirt numbers.  T-ballers do not need to sign the card but all softball players U11 upwards do need to sign the card and have their positions listed.  Dispensated players must be noted on the card.  Check with the other team at the end of the game that both teams have the same final result, umpire and team official to sign the card and it is to be put into the box in the control room before you leave the park.  Any team cards not completed correctly will be void.

 

CODE OF CONDUCT

This Code of Conduct (Code) is issued by the Board of the North Harbour Softball Association Inc (NHSA) and applies to all persons who are directly or indirectly within the ambit of NHSA.  For the purpose of this Code these persons are referred to as “Members”.

The key requirement of the Code is that all persons associated with NHSA …   

“WILL CONDUCT THEMSELVES AT ALL TIMES IN A MANNER WHICH WILL ENHANCE THE SPORT OF SOFTBALL AND THE NORTH HARBOUR SOFTBALL ASSOCIATION …”

In particular:

• Members will at all times abide by the Rules and Bylaws of NHSA, not only the literal interpretation of the Rules and Bylaws but the spirit of the Rules and Bylaws.
• Members will not use or condone the use of, or involvement with, stimulants or any illegal drug for performance enhancement and/or recreation.
• Members will not engage in excessive use of alcohol and will only use alcohol at appropriate times and in appropriate places.
•  Members will not provide alcohol to Members who are younger than the legal drinking age.
•  Members will not provide tobacco products to Members who are younger than the legal smoking age.
•  Members will not assault, or attempt to assault, or aid and abet any assault or attempt to assault any Officiator/s of the game, Team member/s, Team Official/s, Spectator/s or any Member/s or Official/s of the opposition.
• Members will not condone or be involved in any deliberate injury of players.
• Members will not be involved in using abusive, offensive, crude and unnecessary language and gestures, towards own team members, members of the opposition, and in particular, to any Officiator of the game.
•  Members will not damage or deface any equipment, buildings and property, and will actively discourage others from being involved in this type of activity

Games Committee Code of Ethics

The NHSA and the Games Committee take a strong stand on all aggressions by participants against the established Rules and Codes of Conduct.  They also support the Hillary Commission (now known as SPARC) on its stand on Fair Play and the Fair Play Sport Charter.

NHSA exists for the game of Softball and three key elements of this are, Coaches, Managers and Players.

The following paragraphs provide guidance for these groups:

A Coach will:

• Be a role model so as to inspire confidence
• Be reasonable in their demands on players
• Enhance and encourage the skill and performance of their team
• Praise and encourage good performance
•  Be respectful of their team and oppositions ability as players
•  Be firm and fair
•  Encourage adherence to this Code

A Manager will:

• Be a role model as to inspire confidence
• Be responsible for the sound management and well being  for the good of their team
• Encourage the wearing of team uniforms correctly at all times
• Be supportive of Players, Officials and Supporters
•  Encourage adherence to this Code

A Player will:

• Play the game competitively, to win within both the spirit and the letter of the rules
•  Accept and conform to all rulings by game officials
•  Refrain from any conduct that in the opinion of the game officials render a player unfit to continue to play the game
•  Be supportive of team members and officials
•  Wear their Club uniform correctly and with pride
•  Behave in an acceptable manner in accordance with this Code
